Labor Day is Just Around the Corner
Ah, Labor Day! A day to celebrate all the accomplishments American’s have made in the workplace! Many see this holiday as the end of the summer season. This day can be a celebration of saying goodbye to stark white clothing, teeny bathing suits that leave us exposed, and a time to put an end to “beach body” summer diets.
However; Labor Day is also your last chance to show off the hard work you have made on your body through the summer season! Festivities include final days on the water, back yard barbecues, and pool parties. Shorts, tanks tops, and sandals, are still the most comfortable thing to wear.
So what is a girl to do if the idea of fall already has you slacking off on your diet and exercise? Never fear! Lady & the Dachshund has some great tips and tricks to have you slimming down and feeling your best over these next two weeks!
Lose Weight and Feel Skinnier in Two Weeks
There are many ways to loose weight fast! Unfortunately, most of these methods involve you to eat as little as possible and to survive in a constant state of hangry! That is no life for me! Sure skinny feels good but so does being happy!
These tips for losing weight and looking skinnier by Labor Day are easy to begin and stick to!
10 Tips to Lose Weight and Look Thinner Fast
WATER, WATER, WATER!
Did you know the average American drinks more calories than they eat? I have to admit, as a sweet tea ADDICT, I think I fall into that category.
Water has no calories and requires you to burn 12 calories per every 8 ounce glass you drink! If you drink your recommended 2 liters of water per day, you will burn 100 calories! Studies have even found that drinking water temporarily boosts your metabolism which leads to even more caloric burn!
Cut Back On Sugar
Again, that darn sweet tea gets me every time! Sugars are the number one stimulant that tells your body to secrete insulin. If you didn’t already know, insulin is the hormone in your body that is mainly responsible for fat storage!
Less sugar = less insulin output = less fat stored!
An additional benefit of less insulin is the shedding of excess sodium and water by your kidneys! Once this salt and water is flushed from your body you will have less bloat and water weight!
Cut Back on Starches
Unfortunately starches are just a sibling of sugar. Same makeup, just packaged in a new look. Although you may think that bread, potatoes, and pastas aren’t THAT BAD for you, you may be surprised to know they are likely to raise your blood sugar more quickly than complex carbohydrates.
Luckily, cutting out these yummy items will give you the same benefits of cutting sugars. You will store less fat and reduce bloating and water weight!
Motivational Note: It is not uncommon for women cutting sugars and starches to loose 10 pounds per week! So while it may be hard, it WILL be worth it!
Eat Lots of Protein
The importance of eating protein cannot be stressed enough! Protein keep you feeling full longer, thus making dieting easier! Studies have also found that protein can boost your metabolism causing you to burn an extra 80 to 100 calories per day!
Great Protein Sources Include: Beef, Chicken, Salmon, Shrimp, Eggs, Beans, and Lentils!
Eat Plenty of Low-Carb Vegetables
Eating plenty of vegetables will make sure you are receiving enough fiber, vitamins, and minerals each day! Plus, you can load up a plate of these veggies without guilt!
Vegetables Low in Carbohydrates Include: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spinach, Kale, Brussels Sprouts, Celery, and Cucumbers!
Choose Healthy Fat Sources
Do not try to take on too much at one time! Trying to go low-carb and low-fat all at once is a recipe for failure! There is no reason to fear healthy fats like those below. They are more fulfilling than other fats and have even been found to provide slight boosts in metabolism!
Healthy Fats Include: Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, and Avocado Oil. Ghee can also be a great supplement to your weight loss!
Eat More Fiber
Fiber is a great supplement to weight loss as it keeps you feeling full longer! Shockingly, most of us only eat about 50% of our recommended daily intake of fiber!
High fiber foods typically require more chewing before they can be swallowed. This allows your body more time to compute that you are no hungry, therefore, reducing over eating!
High Fiber Foods Include: Oats, Whole Wheat, Whole Grains, and Seasonal Fruits and Veggies
Eat At Home
The average American eats four meals a week that were not prepared at home. For busy families and professionals, this number can be as high as multiple meals per day! This convenience comes at a high price!
Most meals in restaurants have many more calories, grams of fat, sugar, and sodium, than similar meals prepared at home. To guarantee you lose weight and look great by Labor Day, make sure you are staying in for dinner and meal planning your work meals!
Walk After Your Meals
Diet is only have the recipe for fast weight loss and a slimmer appearance! A quick ten minute walk through your neighborhood after your meals will help you to burn calories and will also aid in your digestion!
Walking after meals will also help improve your blood sugar levels! Research has found that a post-meal stroll helps clear glucose from the body by absorbing more of it into your muscles!
Do Some Push-Ups and Squats
Yeah, yeah, yeah.. I hate squats too! That doesn’t change the fact that push-ups and squats are two of the most effective exercises to burn calories and fat! You do not need any equipment to complete these exercises and they can be done in the comfort of your own home!
Try to spend 15 minutes per day toning your arms and legs and you will look like you have spent hours at the gym!
